 The Recess Speech

(for every grown-up who forgot how to feel good)

You were taught that life is a battlefield.

That worth is earned through struggle.

That if it doesn’t hurt, it’s not working.

That joy comes later.

After the proving.

After the pain.

After you’ve “earned” your right to breathe.

But here’s the quantum truth:

Your future is built from your now.

So if your now is wired with tension, fear, and self-abandonment—

what kind of future are you building?

You can’t code a reality of joy and freedom

while running an operating system of self-abandonment and self-sacrifice.

You keep adding pain to the recipe

and wondering why your life still tastes like suffering.

But it’s all normal, right?

Feeling not-okay?

Burnout. Numbness. Exhaustion.

Just part of being an adult, right?

And of course you didn’t question it—

you were too busy trying not to burn to the ground.

You were on fire.

Just trying to survive.

And when you’re in survival mode,

life does feel like war.

Every day a battle.

Every breath hard-won.

But here’s the deeper truth:

It may be the norm…

But it’s not normal.

And it’s definitely not sacred.

You were not born just to survive.

You were designed to thrive.

To play.

To create.

To feel free.

You were born to be you—

unapologetically, joyfully, weirdly you.

The battlefield trained you to fight for your life.

This playground invites you to finally live it.

You don’t need more grit.

You need a goddamn swing set—

and a safe nervous system to play in it.

Somewhere along the way,

we traded our playground for a battlefield.

Joy for performance.

Presence for productivity.

It was a shit trade.

And no one questioned it.

Until now.

It’s time to question it.

It’s time to reclaim joy.

It’s time to play.

THE LAWS OF THE PLAYGROUND

  1. You don’t have to earn your breath.
Your worth is not on trial. Joy isn’t a reward — it’s your birthright.

  2. You can’t regulate what you refuse to feel.
    Numbness is not peace.
    Feel it to free it.

  3. Don’t abandon yourself to belong.
If the cost of connection is leaving yourself, it’s not connection — it’s captivity.

  4. Rest is not retreat.
Stillness is strategy. Silence is power. Sleep is sacred.

  5. Weird is a compass.
If it feels strange but true, it’s probably you. Follow it.
Translation? Fuck normal. You’re not normal — thank God.

  6. Play is not a luxury.
    It’s a frequency. A portal. A fucking requirement.

  7. Grit without grace is masochism.
Discipline is divine — but not if it’s killing you.
You need discipline, but never without nurture. Never without kindness to yourself.

  8. Burnout is not a badge.
Stop auditioning for your own life. You’re already cast.

  9. You are flammable, but you don’t have to be the fire.
You just have to stop lighting matches in your own nervous system.

  10. You can’t quantum leap with a fried motherboard.
    Put the fire out first.
    Hydrate.
    Breathe.
And remember: smoke inhalation always blocks the magic.

  11. Freedom requires structure.
The kind that holds you, not cages you.
The kind that says: You’re safe now. Go swing.
We build runways so we can fly.
Don’t forget that when you’re healing.
You were built to fucking fly.

Each one is a truth.

A permission slip.

And a protective spell.

 Welcome to the Playground.
